Flower Power

Now that Spring is finally here I have a chance to experiment with different things. All across social media and magazines "Flower Crowns" are all the rage. This current trend is inspired by the 1960's "hippie/flower child" look. This look is ideal for the person that is looking for a super feminine and personalized accessory. Whether I purchase mine or pull a "D.I.Y.'' , I plan to wear it at concerts, festivals, and possibly running my daily errands.

Erykah Badu is one musical artist that you will never be able to say has a "signature look ". Over the years we have seen her wearing accessories like : Bronze eagle feather cuffs, interesting statement rings and headdresses. One staple item that has stayed with her evolving style is the top hat. Some may think that it is an unusual choice, but she definitely shows us how to do it. Ms. Badu often chooses to dress down this "formal" chapeau with casual clothing. Her accompanying jewelry is light and not distracting from the main attraction. Solange

Solange Knowles was recently featured in Harper's Bazaar magazine. The fashion spread highlighted the chic, colorful and trendy styles that we know her for. I enjoyed seeing the fun patterns in her clothing but the thing that stuck out to me the most was her accessories. They can be described in two words : flirty and simple. If you notice she is only wearing one single adornment in each look. There was not a need to overdo it and add to the already busy prints that she wore. Her selected pieces were literally an accent. This was a reminder to myself that you don't always have to sport three or four pieces of jewelry,with a matching belt, sunglasses etc. One item is just fine. I am so guilty of this especially during the summer. With it coming around the corner I will definitely pay more attention to the amount of accessories I pile on.

Stacked

Retro bangles are my signature accessory. No they really are. I have pictures to prove it. There is a photo of me at the tender age of one wearing a set of gold bangles. And since that very day my love for accessories began. In my youth, I wore at least four rubber multicolored bracelets on my arm. The awkward teenage years were accompanied by stackable slinky wristlets. My college years were famous for the chunky earth tone resin kind. These days mod and ethnic lead the majority in my collection. So as you see my love for these adornments has always stayed the same. The only thing that has changed is my shopping strategy for them. Now I buy in sets and solid colors so that they will blend easily with my wardrobe.

In my morning routine I often find myself frustrated. While putting the final touches on my makeup, I am always digging through what seems to be a bottomless bag of cosmetics looking for my lipstick of choice. I eventually just end up turning the bag upside down and dumping everything out on the counter. After scrambling a few things around, I finally find what I am looking for. Needless to say it is definitely time for a change . While searching for some storage options on the web, I came across these lipstick holders from Anthropologie. With Spring Break coming around the corner it is only natural that a girl begin planning her outfits! For my vacation I have decided to base my accessories off of the theme "Mod Roman Holiday". Harlem

When I think of the many different cultural movements that have happened in the past, my favorite has to be "The Harlem Renaissance". This era is usually identified with two things: The debut of new and creative forms of literature and the flourishing of jazz music. Outside of these , I also recognize this age with fashion. Women often wore very simple but elegant accessories. Some of the must have trends were stylish cloche hats, wrist length gloves , jeweled or pearled necklaces , and drop earrings.

Fave Five

For the past couple of weeks I have been on a quest for fashionable turbans. Since I haven't been able to find one in person I decided to see what there was to offer online . I immediately stopped by one of my favorite online boutiques, Vibe Jewels. I knew that they would have exactly what I was looking for. My mission was to find something that had satin like fabric and was accompanied by a tasteful embellishment. The five that caught my eye were these beautiful jewel toned ones. They gave me the feeling of romance while still having a bohemian look. The great thing about this accessory is that it is also very stylish to include it with your winter outwear. Needless to say I will be ordering a turban from here soon.

New York Fashion Week 2013 has officially kicked off today! While I am in anticipation to see my favorite designer’s creative works, I have found that the style on the street can be just as exciting. The trendsetters attending the shows wore chic interpretations of "modern vintage". Bright colored fabrics and unique patterns were just a few things used to personalize their look. The accessory of choice for many was the frame hand bag. This adornment originally became popular in the mid-twentieth century (1940-1960). Fortunately, the style has reemerged and will continue to accent femininity.
