Femme Spotlight : Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles has definitely become a trend setter over the years. Her signature style of bright colors, prints, and vintage accessories has hands down adorned her with a signature look. Even though this songstress has said that she cares “nothing”for fashion she is responsible for reintroducing retro styles to the hipsters of today. Solange is a Supreme Femme because she effortlessly mixes her vintage finds with modern clothing.

Festival Fashions

Hello my Femmes! If you haven’t noticed the trend for this summer was 1990s fashion. Cropped Tops and stretch pants are just a few styles that have remerged. With this, people are finding new ways to accessorize and personalize their look. These chic concert attendees have infused mod sunglasses, a vintage inspired frame bag and an adorable head scarf to stick out from the rest. How did you mix the old with the new this sunny season?

This year the 2013 V Festival was held in Chelmsford, Essex. With an electrifying line up that ranged
from Beyonce to The Kings of Leon, fans had no choice but to leave the stadium extremely pleased. Amidst all of that hot talent oozing through the summer air it only makes since to give attention to the fashion. Several of the artists were seen wearing eye catching vintage inspired accessories. The styles ranged from the classic Ray Bans sunglasses to dainty ornate head wear. Which look can you see yourself wearing?

Sunny Days Ahead

Hello my femmes!!! Can you believe the summer is almost over? In less than two months we will trade in our dainty summer dresses for jeans and our sexy strappy sandals for flats. But there is no need to worry there are still lots of things you can do to jazz up your appearance. Especially when trying to achieve that "vintage look" with a modern twist. That’s why I love accessories! One of my favorite items to transition into the fall are sunglasses.  I have completely fallen in love with the mod retro frames. Not only are the silhouettes unique, but they also come in different textures.  If you prefer ones that are dripped in rhinestones or just the smooth finish of metal there is something for you. I’ve found that it gives me an extra sense of sultriness when I pair them with an intense red lipstick. Of course, everyone does not want to ooze sex appeal so I definitely suggest wearing your own signature color.

The mod/retro frames that have remerged revisit the era of the 1950s and 1960s. The most popular styles are in the shape of cat eye or bowline (Ray Ban). While I was shopping at Nordstrom I discovered an adorable pair of vintage inspired sunglasses. They are by the brand Spitfire. They are a retro sunglass company. On their website you can personalize your shades. You have the opportunity to choose the color frame and lens of your choice! How great is that. And the best thing about it is that they are very affordable. Check them out at : www.spitfire-design.com or nordstrom.com. Below I posted some pics from the Nordstom site.

Dollars and Sense

Although we appreciate vintage digs, Supreme Femme will never promote breaking the bank for them.  If you are lucky enough to stumble upon a vintage piece through 'thrifting" or in your grandmothers attic that’s wonderful!! But if you’re ready to indulge in the wonderful world of retail, be very mindful of your budget. The shopping experience can be overwhelming in general, but you will really send yourself in a complete tizzy when you see something unique and rare. However, in this economy it is important that things be functional and multi purposeful, not just simply because you want it. Accessories are an investment. I will repeat that again. Accessories are an investment. This is because throughout all of the fashion trends we endure you will always be able to create a new look with them. Before any purchase I always go by the industry’s famous evaluation when weighing the cost of clothing: Splurge vs. Steal. This method allows you to ask yourself a line of questions like: Is this something that is worth the extra bucks? Is it one of a kind? Can you afford it? Steal on the other hand just simply means "Girl are you crazy you better get it ... as matter of fact get another one in a different color!!!" But if funds are low there are a lot of equally great vintage inspired accessories that you can find anywhere. Some of my favorite stores that I find them in are Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Nordstrom, and Lulus. I’ve listed some tips below for shopping for accessories:
Think about what you already have. Search through your closet. Are you in the mood to "revamp" your wardrobe or to add to your collection? Have you ever thought about wearing your outfits in a different way?
Look for accessories that you will be able to wear with "staple" solid colors. This way you will be able to experiment with different colors, patterns and prints.
Buy in sets. It may be hard to find something similar to the style in the future. Also it can add a sophisticated appeal to your look.
Be practical: Seek accessories that can be worn with multiple outfits in your daily life as well as those special outings.
Shop Around. Vintage and vintage inspired accessories can be found in multiple locations. Check out flea markets, online, vintage stores, street fairs, mall etc.

I hope these tips will help you. Shop on! Until next time.
